Poisoners in the Dark

Bezahltag, 13th Jahrdrung

A further day was spent wandering under the forest canopy and the Skull caused Chaos in the night by infiltrating the dreams of the weak willed.

Taking some additional measures of protection against the Skull’s influence the next day saw you get closer to Middenheim and the road, however the Skull had one last trick to pull and began to emit a screeching noise that called Beastmen raining down on your position.

You fought bravely against the Beastmen, but their numbers were overwhelming and the tide was slowly turning against you. As things seemed darkest the three strangers entered the fray and helped to turn the tide decisively against the Beastmen. After the combat the three strangers confirmed that they were Gerhard Kroen’s mysterious friends, members of the Ordo Fidelis. They interrogated you about your mission and the Brass Skull, and confirmed some details of who they were and what they were doing. Matthias Hoffer was their leader, Jakob Bauer the combat specialist and Ulrich Fischer their physician. They volunteered to accompany you back to Middenheim but wanted no credit and specifically asked you not to share their presence with the cult of Ulric.

Arriving back at the Temple of Ulric you presented the Brass Skull to Father Ranulf, who had in sealed in a warded box to contain its evil influence. As you prepared to meet the Deputy High Priest Claus Liebnitz your celebratory drinks went awry with Father Odo mutating into a horrific creature. Someone had poisoned the water supply in the temple resulting in a number of mutants. You helped round them up and then Deputy High Priest Liebnitz asked to meet with you. After thanking you for your service thus far he charged you to keep the poisoning a secret to avoid panic, and implored you to investigate on your own and stop any more of the city’s wells being poisoned.

After agreeing to help you left the Temple of Ulric and began to make plans for what seemed like an impossible task. However the Ordo Fidelis contacted you regarding the disturbance in the Temple of Ulric and offered their aid in guarding the city’s wells. They agreed to watch the wells in the north of the city and you took those in the south. Dividing yourselves among the main wells you settled in to watch for any strange occurrences.

Shortly after midnight Oddwyn spotted a cloaked figure approaching his well, the figure pulled a small sack from his cloak and footered with it at the rim of the well. Oddwyn challenged him and loosed arrows after him when the figure fled. Striking home with a couple of arrows Oddwyn failed to bring the figure down and struggled to keep pace with them in a race through the city streets. Oddwyn’s cries were heard by some of you nearby and as you head in his direction he finds himself having lost his injured quarry but hoping to track them down…
